Katherine Morley

Katherine Morley currently holds the complementary posts of President’s doctoral scholar at the University of Manchester, associate researcher at Small Size, and early years associate artist at the egg, Theatre Royal Bath.

Funded by the AHRC, Katherine’s doctoral thesis has a focus of spectatorship in the early years performance arena, specifically studying 0-18 month olds and the infant-parent dyad.

At the heart of this work is the notion of stillness (recent papers include ‘The body as an Ear’ and ’Seeing Sound’), where theories of cognitive development and proxemics are imbricated with the significance of the child’s corporeal response to the theatrical experience. This research examines and intends to progress theories of relational spectatorship, placing the child’s sensorium at its heart.
